Food for Thought -- Catholic Digital Citzenship

So much of our discussion about the use of technology is about "How to use the tools?"
That in itself is find and dandy, but there must a moment in which the education of how to use the tools leaps to what is the BEST way in which I can use the tools I have learned? ... or SHOULD I use this
and that tool?
When we speak about Digital Citzenship, we focus on four stages. (See ISTE on the side)
1. Awareness -- how to use tools. Understand samples of misuse and abuse.
2. Guided Practice -- Teachers need to TEACH actual appropriate use of the tools. This level is all about
mistakes and lessons learned.
3. Modeling and Demonstration -- This is all about students having time to use the tools AND seeing
seeing teachers ACTUALLY using the tools in ethical manner.
4. Feedback and Analysis -- This opens a dialog between the way "society" sets the norm and how
the Church views it as a vehicle of hope to support the true meaning of the human person. The Church
comment is my feeling.
The stages are further divided into nine elements. These elements are: (See Using Technology ...)
1. Digital Access -- full electronic participation in society
2. Digital Commercy -- electric buying and selling of goods
3. Digital Communication -- electronic exchange of information.
4. Digital Literacy -- process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology
5. Digital Etiquette -- electronic standards of conduct or procedure
6. Digital Law -- electronic responsiblilty for actions and deeds
7. Digital Rights and Responsibilites -- those "freedoms" extended to everyone in the digtal world
8. Digital Health and Wellness -- physical and psychological well-being in a digital technology world
9. Digital security -- electronic precautions to guarantee safety.
